When to use virtual care
Our goal is simple: the right care, in the right place. Virtual consultation is an excellent tool, and sometimes guiding you toward in-person care is the best decision.
Situations where virtual care works well
Many reasons for visit can be handled remotely, with listening, clinical judgement, and a clear plan.
- Renewals and follow-ups when your condition is stable
- Skin concerns, allergies, sinusitis, urinary tract infections (depending on context)
- Screenings, check-ups, and sexual or reproductive health questions
- Guidance and referrals when that is the right next step
When an in-person visit is preferable
This is not a refusal: it is a way to keep you safe. If a physical exam, imaging, or immediate care is needed, we will explain clearly and point you to the right resource.
Urgent or rapidly changing situations
- Chest pain, significant shortness of breath, fainting
- Immediate risk to your safety or someone else’s
- Any symptom that may suggest a stroke
When an in-person exam is needed
- Earache (otitis), significant cough, abdominal or back pain
- Musculoskeletal injuries, suspected fracture, red and hot joint
- Mass, abscess, or major eye problem (pain, vision change, flashes)
Some intimate or specialized concerns
- UTI or painful urination in men, testicular mass, blood in the urine
- Abnormal vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain
- STI screening when you have symptoms
- Headache / migraine, dizziness, palpitations
In an emergency
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Virtual care does not replace emergency services.
In short: when virtual care is appropriate, we make it simple and effective. When it is not, we will tell you honestly.
