Virtual care exclusions
Virtual care works well for many health needs, but some situations require an in-person exam. Here is what is not offered through our virtual clinic.
Reasons not offered virtually
The following reasons for visit generally are not appropriate for a virtual consultation and require an in-person evaluation instead.
- Mass / lump / abscess requiring drainage
- Dizziness
- New headache
- Neurological symptoms that may suggest a stroke
- Eye symptoms when there is a change in vision or eye pain
- Ear pain / ear infection
- Chest or heart pain / palpitations
- Breathing difficulty / shortness of breath
- New abdominal pain
- Abdominal pain
- Urinary infection symptoms in men (e.g. blood in the urine, burning / pain when urinating, etc.)
- Abnormal vaginal bleeding
- STI screening for someone who has symptoms
- Situation requiring urgent care
- Suspected fracture / fall / car accident
- CNESST or SAAQ cases
If you are unsure, contact us — we will be happy to assess whether your situation can be seen through our virtual clinic or whether an in-person evaluation would be more appropriate.
In an emergency
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Virtual care does not replace emergency services.
